Glory Days

My wife thinks I put up too many of those corny "Not the same Ricketts" posts. Sorry if anyone is put off by them, they're just too much fun. As an antidote, here are some buttons from the old Steam and Antique Shows that were held in Ricketts that we discovered while cleaning out our basement today. Does anyone have any fun memories or great pictures from one of the shows? I'd love to post that sort of thing.

Ricketts has a proud and flavorful history. Only you can insure that it has a bright and exciting future.

Hungry?

Mmmm... I wonder what they're gonna eat at the Annual Ricketts Kids Reunion on the third Saturday of July this year?
Maybe some of my Great-Uncle Milbrodt's famous "western warrior rabbit stew." Yum yummy!
Okay, I'm making that up. I don't even have an uncle Milbrodt. And as far as I know it's a pot-luck- but you can come as you are, without feeling obligated to bring anything but yourself. They'll be glad to have you and you'll be glad you came.
I'm still waiting for more memories and/or pictures I can scan and post. How about when you and your siblings had to raise bunnies for 4H?

Dang, I'm getting hungry again. "Cook, bring me my hossenfeffer!"

MSSN Ricketts shows off his galley aboard the USS Barb, a submarine stationed in Hawaii. Pictured below in port at Hong Kong.

You see, there are people named Rickett all over the world. So why aren't there any in the town of Ricketts, Iowa? You'll have to ask some of the Ricketts kids at their annual reunion next month! It's gonna be on the third Saturday in July.

Meanwhile, if you have memories or pictures of Ricketts to share, email them to our webmaster: ted.mallory -at- gmail.com

Or, you can send me more of these funny, kitsch, or corny "Not the same Ricketts" ideas, send them too. Help put Ricketts on the map!

"John Ricketts drives for the Audi Racing UK drag racing team ,We are based in the north of England and compete at all the major drag strips in the country. The Audi Coupe we race is 100% street legal, all steel and standard glass,we even have electric windows and full treaded tyres."

Right again, some limey named John whor races FOREIGN cars over in England really has nothing to do with the REAL Ricketts. But you gotta love how they spell "tyres."

Just a reminder, if you grew up in Ricketts IOWA, be sure to plan on coming to our annual reunion, the third Saturday in July.

Not the same Ricketts; File #14

Thomas Ricketts was born in White Bay and was only 6 months past his 15th birthday when he enlisted in the Newfoundland Regiment in September, 1916. In October of 1918 he was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military award for bravery in the British Commonwealth. He was invested with the Victoria Cross by King George V, January 19, 1919.

Okay, okay, Newfoundland is a long way from Crawford County Iowa and a Canadian WWI hero realy doesn't have anything to do with the TOWN of Ricketts, but MOST of the rest of this website does!

If you grew up in Ricketts, be sure to plan on coming to our annual reunion, the third Saturday in July.

Plenty of Sour Krout

Looks like the Schwartzs have another bumper crop of cabbages!

Okay, you're right, this is just some bogus picture that I stumbled upon on the web, no doubt of some campy postcard found in somebody's attic. I just couldn't handle having that ultra-serious poem from Memorial Day on top anymore. PLEASE- if anybody has any REAL pictures or stories from Rickett, please send them to me so that we can make this the greatest website about a tiny little town around. Thanks!
