4H & FFA

Check out how some of our neighbors did at the annual Charter Oak Achievement Days Style Show held today by clicking on this link to visit the Charter Oak Achiever's 4H Website- http://www.coachievers.blogspot.com

The annual Charter Oak Achievement Days have been going on for over 60 years. It seems to be one of the last small towns in Iowa to host its very own 4H/FFA "Fair." They have a tractor ride, antique car show, pedal tractor-pull, livestock shows & auction, BINGO, horseshoe tournament, baked goods auction, and tons of friends, family & neighbors! This year they even added a Bill Riley Talent Search.

Folks from Ricketts, Schleswig, Soldier, Ute, Dunlap, Dow City and just about all over this area come and have a great time.

Next week, watch for kids from around Ricketts to show their projects and livestock in Denison at the Crawford County Fair. See you there!

Anyone you Recognize?

The guy who's third from the right, with his hand in his pocket is Laura Langhold's father, Carl Schwarz. We estimate this to be from around 1912. Can anyone identify any of the rest of the guys in this picture? What were they together for? This was on a post card from Dean's Art Gallery in Denison, IA. The fellow on the far left looks like he's wearing a railroad conductor's uniform- or is he a postman? Was this some kind of church picture?

William Howard Taft was President, Teddy Roosevelt ran against him for the Bull Moose Party, splitting the vote so that Woodrow Wilson would be elected. WWI was several years off. Republican Beryl F. Carroll was Governor.

Euchre Tournament, Feb. 12

Anticipation Builds; Major Announcement Postponed

Ricketts Community Club member Nancy Landon explains the delay.
A special meeting had been planned for Saturday, January 28 to announce major developments which will directly effect Ricketts as well as the neighboring communities of Charter Oak and Ute. Unfortunately an emergency in the family of one of the principal participants in the program to be revealed made it impossible for them to attend.

Another special meeting of the Community Club's Board will be held in the next two weeks and another Special Town Hall Meeting at the Community Center will take place within the next month to make the plans public.

PLEASE WATCH THIS WEBSITE FOR FURTHER NOTICES!

Congratulations Carlsons!

Lloyd & Elaine Carlson were recognized with the annual Ricketts Leadership Award at the Ricketts Community Center, Sunday, January 15, 2012. The Carlsons have served Ricketts in the Community Club, the LWML, various church boards, Cub Scouts and the Volunteer Fire Department. Lloyd operated the LLL Grocery Store in Ricketts for many years.

The Carlsons married after each had been widowed. Their children from each's previous marriages serenaded them with a custom version of the old 'Brady Bunch' TV show theme, 'The Carlson Bunch.' Scores of well wishers joined them at the annual Ricketts Leadership Brunch where the Community Club served pancakes, French toast, sausages, coffee and treats.
